They are currently above only Zimbabwe and the Netherlands in the 13-team Super League standings, which will determine the eight sides who will earn automatic entry to the tournament.
With all the emphasis on the T20 World Cup and qualification for next year's ODI version not at issue, Shikhar Dhawan's side are free to get on with the game without having to think about what might happen should things not go according to plan. They won't even have to stay in Rahul Dravid's good books - the head coach has handed the reins to VVS Laxman.
Neither team can say, because neither have played an ODI here before. And neither might be able to say after Thursday, when significant rain has been forecast.
