Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram: Why were the social networking sites down?

At around 9.15 pm on Monday, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram were down. All the social media platforms were inaccessible to anyone in the world leading to huge losses.

The reason behind it was down servers.
